Frequently Asked Questions

What is Starknet (STRK)?

Starknet initially launched as a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum, using validity proofs (STARK proofs) to enable fast, low-cost transactions while inheriting Ethereum's security. It allows developers to build high-performance decentralized applications (dApps) with lower costs and strong cryptographic guarantees without sacrificing security or decentralization.

Starknet has now expanded beyond Ethereum, with the Bitcoin network firmly in its sights. The Starknet roadmap sets out a future in which it settles on both Bitcoin and Ethereum, becoming a “unifying Layer 2”  and enabling settlement and dApps across both networks.

Starknet is prioritizing bridges such as StarkGate to support its Bitcoin integration. Both already enable cross-chain activity using multi-sig or federated models, with a long-term roadmap toward more trustless designs.

What Are the Tokenomics of Starknet?

The STRK token is the native utility token of the Starknet protocol. It is used for governance and for paying transaction fees (alongside ETH).

STRK created 10 billion Stark tokens in 2022, with allocations spread across contributors, investors, operations, grants, community programs, and the StarkNet foundation. The largest shares went to early contributors (20%), investors (18%), and grants/development partners (13%).

STRK holders can participate in protocol governance by voting on proposals, such as system upgrades or changes to the Starknet Operating System. Some proposals may require a minimum amount of STRK to support or initiate.

Starknet also has a staking mechanism. Validators are required to lock at least 20,000 STRK and operate a full node, while delegators can stake their STRK with no minimum amount.

How do I sell my Starknet?

To sell your Starknet (STRK) and convert them into Bitcoin (BTC), you need to access Xverse Swap using your web browser. Then, you connect your Starknet wallet, where you’re storing your STRK, and your Xverse wallet, where you’ll receive your BTC. Next, you enter the amount of STRK you want to convert to BTC and click ‘Get Quotes.’ Finally, review the transaction details and click ‘Swap.’ Remember, you’ll need some ETH to cover gas fees to process the swap. Your STRK will then be swapped into BTC within minutes, and your coins will arrive in your connected Xverse wallet.

Are there fees for swapping STRK to BTC?

While there are standard network fees for transactions on the blockchain, Xverse doesn’t add hidden markups or charges. What you see is what you get, with transparent pricing displayed before you confirm your swap.

How long does the swap process take?

Most STRK to BTC swaps settle within a few minutes. However, during times of high network congestion, it may take slightly longer. Xverse Swap provides real-time updates on your transaction status so you’re always informed about your swap progress.

Is there a minimum amount of STRK I can swap?

Yes, there is a minimum swap amount to ensure the transaction value exceeds network fees. This minimum varies based on current network conditions and will be displayed in the app before you initiate your swap.
